Fungalpedia – Note 3156, Diplorhynchus

Diplorhynchus G. Arnaud, Bulletin de la Société Mycologique de France 68: 207 (1952).

Citation when using this data: Jian Ma et al. 2024 – Fungalpedia.

Index Fungorum, Faceoffungi, MycoBank, GenBank, Fig 1.

Classification: Incertae sedis, Incertae sedis, Incertae sedis, Incertae sedis, Pezizomycotina, Ascomycota, Fungi.

Notes: Diplorhynchus was established by Arnaud (1952), and typified by D. bilobus based on morphological data. However, Diplorhynchus did not conform to the 35.1 and 39.1 rules in Melbourne, thus the latter is considered invalid (McNeill et al. 2012; Index Fungorum 2024). Based on the previously published photograph, we classify it as a helicosporous taxon based on its helicosporous conidia (Arnaud 1952). Diplorhynchus bilobus can be easily distinguished from other helicosporous taxa by its terminal coiled part spans across the spiral plate (Linder 1929; Zhao et al. 2007).

Type species: Diplorhynchus bilobus G. Arnaud, Bulletin de la Société Mycologique de France 68: 207 (1952).

Other accepted species: Species Fungorum – search Diplorhynchus.
