Index Fungorum, Facesoffungi, MycoBank, GenBank.
Classification Bionectriaceae, Hypocreales, Hypocreomycetidae, Sordariomycetes, Pezizomycotina, Ascomycota, Fungi.
Saprobic, foliicolous, fungicolous, parasitic on Meliola, Asterina, Schiffnerula and allied species. Sexual morph: Ascomata perithecial, scattered, superficial on white mycelium or black host mycelium, loosely attached, globose to obovoid or subglobose, often laterally collapsing, pale yellow, KOH-, ostiolate, apapillate, surface smooth or with short flexuous hairs. Peridium thin, cells forming a textura epidermoidea. Paraphyses not observed. Asci 8-spored, unitunicate, clavate, apex simple or with an apical ring. Ascospores ellipsoid, 1–3-septate, hyaline, smooth-walled, spinulose or striate. Asexual morph: Hyphomycetous, acremonium-like. Conidiophores erect, straight or somewhat curved, hyaline, smooth-walled. Conidia ellipsoid, hyaline, smooth-walled. Conidial heads globose, white or pale pink (adapted from Hansford 1946; Rossman et al. 1999).
Known distribution: Tropical regions (Brazil, Uganda, Philippines, Paraguay, Sri Lanka) (Rossman et al. 1999).
Notes: Rossman et al. (1999) accepted the genus in Bionectriaceae based on morphology. Seven species are accommodated in Dimerosporiella. There are no recent records on Dimerosporiella species or no molecular data are available. Dimerosporiella species are fungicolous or found on living leaves of Asterina, Meliola, Schiffnerula or related species (Rossman et al. 1999; Sun et al. 2019). The placement needs verifying with molecular data.
Type species: Dimerosporiella paulistana Speg., Revta Mus. La Plata 15(2): 11 (1908).
Other accepted species: Species Fungorum – search Dimerosporiella.
