Colonies epiphyllous or hypophyllous on living leaves, appear as black dots. Superficial hyphae hyaline, indistinct. Sexual morph: Thyriothecia superficial, solitary, subdense, gregarious, black, flattened, circular, dimidiate, with a central ostiole. Upper wall blackish green, membranous, comprising overlapping, compact, pseudoparenchymatous hyphae with textura epidermoidea, lack of basal layer. Hamathecium composed of hyaline, filiform, evanescent, branched pseudoparaphyses with round ends. Asci bitunicate, 8-spored, cylindrical to ovoid, short pedicellate. Ascospores 2-seriate, 1-septum, hyaline, overlapping, fusiform to subclavate, constricted at the septum (Sydow 1938; Zeng et al. 2019). Asexual morph: Undetermined.
Notes: Batista (1959) introduced Dictyopeltella typifying D. domingensis as the type species. This genus is morphologically similar to Micropeltis in having greenish or bluish black thyriothecia and pseudoparaphyses (Zeng et al. 2019). However, Dictyopeltella differs in having 1-septum ascospores and branched, somewhat thick pseudoparaphyses.
Type species: Dictyopeltella domingensis (Petr. & Cif.) Bat. & I.H. Lima, Publicações Inst. Micol. Recife 56: 243 (1959)
Other accepted species: Species Fungorum – search Dictyopeltella.
