Daldinia introduced by Cesati and De Notaris (1863), is one of the largest genera in Hypoxylaceae, comprising approximately 60 species (Hyde et al. 2024). The genus is primarily characterized by well-defined concentric zones in the stromatal interior (Stadler et al. 2014). It has been studied in three major monographs by Child (1932), Ju et al. (1997), and Stadler et al. (2014). Stadler et al. (2014) revisited the genus using a polyphasic approach that incorporated morphology, phylogeny, and chemical profiles, demonstrating the distinction of Daldinia from Annulohypoxylon and Hypoxylon. The classification of Daldinia as a distinct genus within Hypoxylaceae was further confirmed by Wendt et al. (2018) and Wibberg et al. (2021). Yin et al. (2024) identified 94 Daldinia strains from diseased and decayed leaves, introduced seven new species, and proposed that, although these species are mostly hosted by dicots, they do not show host specificity. To date, no species of this genus have been reported from peat swamp forests. In this study, we introduce D. narathiwatensis as a novel species found on Eleiodoxa conferta in the peat swamp forest of Narathiwat, Thailand.
