Classification: Incertae sedis, Incertae sedis, Incertae sedis, Incertae sedis, Pezizomycotina, Ascomycota, Fungi.
Notes: Curculiospora was established by Arnaud (1953), and typified by C. sydowii based on their brown, curculionide-like, unique coiled conidia. However, Curculiospora sydowii did not conform to the 35.1 and 39.1 rules in Melbourne, so this species is considered invalid (McNeill et al. 2012; Index Fungorum 2024). Based on the previously published photograph (Arnaud 1953), we classify it as a helicosporous taxon. Curculiospora sydowii is characterized by swollen, 4-septate, helicoid, curculionide-like conidia that become elliptical and black in the middle cells, and irregularly cylindrical and brown on both ends (Arnaud 1953). Further collections are needed to confirm its taxonomic position.
Type species: Curculiospora sydowii G. Arnaud, Bulletin de la Société Mycologique de France 69: 287 (1954).
Other accepted species: Species Fungorum – search Curculiospora.
