Classification: Ascomycota genera incertae sedis, Fungi.

Codonmyces was introduced by Calatayud et al. (1999b) to describe the conidial fungus C. lecanorae, which occurs on Lecanora valesiaca. This genus is characterized by its black, powdery, effuse colonies; macronematous, mononematous, and irregularly branched conidiophores; and campanulate, monoblastic conidiogenous cells that are brown, discrete, and grouped, with several prominent flared annellations. The conidia are brown, 1-septate, and feature coarse, flattened warts (Calatayud et al. 1999b). Zhurbenko et al. (2024) and Diederich et al. (2024) described two new species separately, leading to three known species in this genus. Due to the lack of molecular data available, the phylogenetic status of this genus remains uncertain.

Type species: Codonmyces lecanorae Calat. & Etayo.

Other accepted species: Species Fungorum – search Codonmyces.
