Claviformispora was erected by Xu et al. (2020) as a monotypic genus to accommodate Claviformispora phyllostachydis as the type species. This species was isolated from dead branches of Phyllostachys heteroclada in China. Morphological distinctions and analyses of a combined ITS, LSU, SSU, and tef1 sequence dataset confirmed validity of the new genus and its classification within Linocarpaceae, Chaetosphaeriales, Sordariomycetes, Ascomycota (Xu et al. 2020). The sexual morph has stromata that are either solitary or gregarious, black, and erumpent. Ascomata are solitary or aggregated, immersed, subglobose, and form slightly raised blistered areas with a central ostiole containing periphyses. The outer cells of the peridium integrate with the host tissues, comprising pale to dark brown cells of textura angularis. The hamathecium comprises hyaline, septate paraphyses, that are longer than asci, broader at the base, and taper toward the apex. Asci are 8-spored, cylindrical to cylindric-clavate, unitunicate, short-pedicellate, and apically rounded with a doughnut-shaped, refractive, J- apical ring. Ascospores are overlapping, uniseriate or 2-seriate, clavate with a thin pedicel, 1-celled, hyaline, smooth-walled, and lack appendages and refringent bands. The asexual morph has not been observed in this genus (Xu et al. 2020). In this study, we document Claviformispora phyllostachydis as a new geographical and host record on dead wood of Nayariophyton zizyphifolium from Doi Tung National Park, Thailand.

Type species: Claviformispora phyllostachydis X.L. Xu & C.L. Yang.

Other accepted species: Species Fungorum – search Claviformispora.
