Notes: Circinoconiopsis was erected and illustrated by Hernández (2013) to accommodate a single species, C. amazonica, as the type species based on their peculiar coiled conidia. This species was found on Oenocarpus sp. (Arecaceae) in Brazil (Hernández 2013). Circinoconiopsis is characterized by macronematous, mononematous, rarely branched, erect, multi-septate, brown to dark brown conidiophores, monoblastic, slightly lageniform to subulate conidiogenous cells, and helicoid, solitary, subhyaline to pale brown, rostrate conidia (Hernández 2013). Circinoconiopsis is morphologically similar to Circinoconis in having circinate and rostrate conidia (Hernández 2013). However, they have different conidiophores and conidia. For example, Circinoconiopsis has rarely branched conidiophores at the base, tapering towards the top, and conidia that gradually become slender towards the apex. In contrast, Circinoconis has trichotomously apically branched conidiophores, and their conidia do not become significantly narrower towards the apex (Boedijn 1942; Hernández 2013).
Type species: Circinoconiopsis amazonica A. Hern.-Gut., Mycotaxon 123: 108 (2013).
Other accepted species: Species Fungorum – search Circinoconiopsis.
