Classification: Nectriaceae, Hypocreales, Hypocreomycetidae, Sordariomycetes, Pezizomycotina, Ascomycota, Fungi.
On woody substrates of recently dead or decaying plants. Sexual morph: Ascomata (270–)350–550(600) μm, perithecial, often forming on bark cracks, superficial on an erumpent, white hyphal stroma, solitary to cespitose in groups of 4 or more, superficial, globose, apapillate, not collapsing when dry, ochreous to umber, with ostiolar area darker, chestnut, KOH-, LA yellow, surface highly warted. Warts forming cells circular to angular, easily dislodged. Peridium of three intergrading strata. Paraphyses lacking. Asci 90–100 × 16–25 μm, 8-spored, clavate, apex simple. Ascospores 22–38 × 8–12 μm, ellipsoid to fusiform, 1-septate, hyaline, slightly constricted at septum, hyaline, smooth-walled, surrounded by a wrinkled ochreous sheath. Asexual morph: Cylindrocarpon-like, hyphomycetous. Phialides borne apically on irregularly branching clusters of cells or directly from hyphae, cylindrical or slightly swollen in the middle, periclinal thickening evident, with a collarette. Microconidia absent. Macroconidia cylindrical or slightly fusiform, curved, with more sharply curved ends, 3-septate. Chlamydospores globose, light brown when formed in culture, form singly or in chains (adapted from Salgado-Salazar et al. 2016).
Known distribution: Tropical: French Guiana, Guyana, northern Brazil (Salgado-Salazar et al. 2016).
Notes: Cinnamomeonectria was introduced to accommodate Nectria cinnamomea (Salgado-Salazar et al. 2016). The genus is characterized by typical cinnamon coloured perithecia and a cylindrocarpon-like asexual morph producing 3-septate macroconidia (Salgado-Salazar et al. 2016). Cinnamomeonectria clades within Nectriaceae closer to Corallonectria in the current phylogenetic analysis (Perera RH et al. 2023).
Type species: Cinnamomeonectria cinnamomea (Brayford & Samuels) Salgado & P. Chaverri, in Salgado-Salazar, Rossman & Chaverri, Fungal Diversity 80: 452 (2016).
Other accepted species: Species Fungorum – search Cinnamomeonectria.
