Notes: Chaetothyriales was introduced by Barr (1987) based on the presence of periphysoids (apical paraphyses) in the ascomata and eight families were accepted in the order viz. Chaetothyriaceae, Coccodiniaceae, Herpotrichiellaceae, Metacapnodiaceae, Microtheliopsidaceae, Pyrenotrichaceae, Strigulaceae and Trichopeltidaceae. The latest classification of Wijayawardene et al. (2020), placed ten families in the order wherein Strelitzianaceae was synonymized as Trichomeriaceae, and Paracladophialophoraceae was added. Members of Chaetothyriales exhibit complex ecological variation and are common in tropical and temperate ecosystems (Chomnunti et al. 2012; Réblová et al. 2013; De Hoog 2014; Liu et al. 2015b; Hongsanan et al. 2016; Hyde et al. 2016; Teixeira et al. 2017; Dong et al. 2018).
