Chaetosticta. Petr. & Syd.
Index Fungorum, Facesoffungi, MycoBank, GenBank, Fig 1
Classification: Pseudoperisporiaceae, Incertae sedis, Dothideomycetidae, Dothideomycetes, Pezizomycotina, Ascomycota, Fungi
Chaetosticta species are endophytic or pathogenic on leaves. The sexual morph is undetermined. The asexual morph is characterised by superficial conidiomata, which are pale brown, pycnidial, scattered, unilocular, setose and ostiolate. The ostiole is papillate, circular and located in the center. The conidiomatal wall is comprised of brown cells of textura angularis. The conidiomatal setae are pale brown and obtuse with septate. Conidiogenous cells are hyaline, phialidic, doliiform to ampulliform and smooth-walled. Conidia are hyaline, oblong to oblong-elliptical, aseptate to several septate, constricted at septa, thick and smooth-walled, with guttulate (Sutton 1980, Pem et al. 2019, Li et al. 2020).
Notes: Chaetosticta was revised by Petrak and Sydow (1925) based on C. perforata. Crane (1971) redescribed Chaetosticta and designated C. perforata as a lectotype. Sutton (1980) and Morgan-Jones et al. (1972) re-described and re-illustrated this genus. Pem et al. (2019) re-examined the type specimen of C. perforata from rom the fungal herbarium collections of Swedish Museum of Natural History, and regarded Chaetomella perforata and Pyrenochaeta erysiphoides as synonymys of C. perforata based on morphological characters. Currently, there are three species are listed in Chaetosticta in Species Fungorum (May, 2024). However, no sequence data are available for these species in GenBank (May, 2024). Molecular studies are necessary to determine the classification status of this genus. The updated taxonomic treatment of this genus is genera incertae sedis, in Dothideomycetes (Wijayawardene et al. 2022).
