Classification: SordariomycetidaeSordariomycetesPezizomycotinaAscomycota, Fungi

Based on LSU sequence data, Chaetosphaeriales, positioned within the Sordariomycetes, was delineated by Huhndorf et al. (2004). This order encompasses six families: Chaetosphaeriaceae, Helminthosphaeriaceae, Leptosporellaceae, Linocarpaceae, Neoleptosporellaceae, and Pseudocapsulosporaceae as supported by subsequent studies (Hongsanan et al. 2017Konta et al. 2017Wijayawardene et al. 2022Hyde et al. 2024a).

Type genus: Chaetosphaeria Tul. & C. Tul.
