Tulasne & Tulasne (1863) introduced Chaetosphaeria (Cha.), as a new genus, with Cha. innumera as the type species. Chaetosphaeria species have a worldwide distribution and are commonly reported as saprobes on decaying plant material in terrestrial and freshwater habitats (Booth 1957, Sarbhoy & Varshney 1971, Kirk & Spooner 1984, Dennis 1986, McKenzie et al. 1992, Eriksson & Yue 1998, Lu et al. 2000, Irsenaite & Treigiene 2001, Fernández et al. 2006, Chlebicki & Chmiel 2006, Atkinson et al. 2007, Kobayashi 2007, Nasr et al. 2018, Hyde et al. 2024). To date, only one unidentified Chaetosphaeria taxon has been reported from peat swamp forests (Pinruan et al. 2007). In this study, we describe Cha. narathiwatensis as a novel taxon.

Type species: Chaetosphaeria innumera Berk. & Broome ex Tul. & C. Tul., Select. fung. carpol. (Paris) 2: 252 (1863)

Other accepted species: Species Fungorum – search Chaetosphaeria.
