Index Fungorum, Facesoffungi, MycoBank, GenBank
Classification: Sordariomycetes, Pezizomycotina, Ascomycota, Fungi
Saprobic on submerged, dead woody debris or decaying deciduous wood from freshwater or terrestrial habitats. Sexual morph: Ascomata astromatic, immersed to erumpent, subglobose to globose, ostiolate, some species with a long neck. Neck cylindrical emerging above the substratum, straight or slightly curved, ostiolate, periphysate. Peridium leathery, two-layered. Paraphyses hyaline, septate, guttulate, filiform, tapering toward the tip, longer than the asci. Asci 8-spored, unitunicate, cylindrical to clavate, long-stipitate, broadly rounded at the apex with or without apical ring. Ascospores uniseriate or biseriate, fusiform, ellipsoidal-fusiform to ellipsoidal, hyaline, three-septate, without gelatinous sheath.
Notes: Ceratolenta clusters with Bullimyces in a wellsupported and distinct clade with a divergence estimate of 147 MYA, which falls within the order range (130–250 MYA) (Hongsanan et al. 2017, Hyde et al. 2017, 2020a, Luo et al. 2019). Therefore, Ceratolentales is introduced as a new order to accommodate two new families, Bullimycetaceae and Ceratolentaceae.
Type family: Ceratolentaceae K.D. Hyde & Hongsanan
Other accepted species: Species Fungorum – search Ceratolentales.
