Cecidonia is introduced by Triebel et al. (1988) to accommodate two species, C. umbonella transferred from Lecidea umbonella Nyl. and Cecidonia xenophana transferred from Phacographa xenophana Körb. The two species were all lichenicolous on Lecidea, with C. umbonella assigned as the type species. Buschbom et al. (2004) conducted a phylogenetic analysis using LSU and β-Tubulin, confirmed the placement within Lecideaceae.

Type species: Cecidonia umbonella (Nyl.) Triebel & Rambold.

Other accepted species: Species Fungorum – search Cecidonia.
