Caloscyphaceae taxa are saprobic and recorded from north temperate regions, under conifers and on calcareous soil (Paden et al. 1978). They produce sessile, cup-shaped, pale apothecia. Asci are operculate and nonamyloid with 8 ascospores. Ascospores are globose and guttulate. The asexual morphs of Caloscyphaceae are represented by Geniculodendron pyriforme (Paden et al. 1978). Recent studies on Caloscyphaceae include Pfister et al. (2013).
