Index Fungorum, Facesoffungi, MycoBank, GenBank.
Classification: Xanthonectriaceae, Hypocreales, Hypocreomycetidae, Sordariomycetes, Pezizomycotina, Ascomycota,, Fungi.
Pathogenic on leaves of Kingia australis. Mycelium of septate, branched, hyaline, smooth-walled hyphae. Sexual morph: Undetermined. Asexual morph: Hyphomycetous, acremonium-like. Conidiophores solitary, erect, sub-cylindrical, septate, straight or flexuous. Conidiogenous cells phialidic, terminal, with minute non-flared collarette, hyaline, smooth-walled. Conidia subcylindrical, ends obtuse, sometimes base faintly truncate, straight to somewhat curved, granular to guttulate, hyaline, smooth-walled, solitary, held in slimy mass, or arrange in a dry chain (adapted from Crous et al. 2016a).
Known distribution: Australia (Crous et al. 2016a)
Notes: Crous et al. (2016a) established the unispecific genus Bullanockia for B. australis, which was collected from the leaves of Kingia australis. Currently, the genus is known only from the type species. Molecular studies of LSU sequences confirmed the taxonomic placement of Bullanockia in Bionectriaceae (Crous et al. 2016a). In the current phylogenetic analysis Bullanockia grouped with Xanthonectria with high statistical support (94% MLBT; 100% BYPP, Perera RH et al. 2023). Both Bullanockia and Xanthonectria are characterized by producing acremonium-like asexual morphs (Crous et al. 2016a; Lechat et al. 2016a).
Type species: Bullanockia australis Crous, in Crous et al., Persoonia 37: 327 (2016).
Other accepted species: Species Fungorum – search Bullanockia.
