Fungalpedia – Note 2516, Bertiella
Bertiella. Sacc.
Citation when using this data: Tennakoon DS et al. 2021 – Fungalpedia, Ascomycota.
Index Fungorum, Facesoffungi, MycoBank, GenBank, Fig 1
Classification: Massarinaceae, Pleosporales, Pleosporomycetidae, Dothideomycetes, Pezizomycotina, Ascomycota, Fungi
Notes: Bertiella was raised to generic rank by Saccardo and Sydow (1899) with
B. macrospora as the type species. Previously, Bertiella was assigned to Massaria
(as M. macrospora). However, recent phylogenetic analyses support its placement within Melanommataceae, close to Byssosphaeria (Tian et al. 2015). Bertiella species act as saprobes on woody hosts and have black, superficial, subglobose, ascomata with carbonaceous peridium, composed of few layers of pigmented cells (Tian et al. 2015; Hongsanan et al. 2020).
Type species: Bertia subgen. Bertiella Sacc., Syll. Fung. (Abellini) 1: 584 (1882).
Other accepted species: Species Fungorum – search Bertiella.
