Classification: Ostropomycetidae genera incetae sedis, Lecanoromycetes, Pezizomycotina, Ascomycota, Fungi

= Phaeopyxis Rambold & Triebel

Bachmanniomyces was established by Hawksworth (1981b) to accommodate the type species B. uncialicola, which grows on Cladonia uncialis f. biuncialis and was initially classified as Phyllosticta uncialicola Zopf. Hawksworth (1981) placed the genus in Sphaeropsidales within Coelomycetes. However, phylogenetic analyses by Pino-Bodas et al. (2017) and Diederich et al. (2018a) have since clustered Bachmanniomyces within the subclass Ostropomycetidae, though relationships within this subclass remain unresolved. Diederich et al. (2018a) proposed that Bachmanniomyces uncialicola represents the asexual stage of Phaeopyxis punctum, suggesting that Phaeopyxis be synonymized with Bachmanniomyces due to the latter’s earlier naming.

Bachmanniomyces is characterized by its asexual morph, featuring solitary, unilocular, globose to subglobose conidiomata that are immersed and hyaline, with orange or brown ostioles. The conidiogenous cells are holoblastic, acrogenous, elongate-ampulliform, proliferative, annellate, and hyaline. The conidia are broadly fusiform to pyriform, mostly asymmetric, hyaline, simple, smooth, and embedded in mucilage (Hawksworth 1981b).

To date, eight species are recognized within Bachmanniomyces, seven of which are lichenicolous. The only exception is B. carniolicus, a lichen found on bark that was transferred from Biatora carniolica Arnold.

Type species: Bachmanniomyces uncialicola (Zopf) D. Hawksw.

= Phyllosticta uncialicola Zopf

Other accepted species: Species Fungorum – search Bachmanniomyces.
