Arthrorhaphis was established by Fries (1861) to accommodate the type species A. flavo-virescens. This genus is morphologically and biologically diverse, comprising both lichenized and lichenicolous fungi. Of the 15 known species, seven are strictly lichenicolous, while three are facultative lichenicolous lichens. Based on the phylogenetic study, Frisch et al. (2022) placed this genus within Arthrorhaphidaceae.
Arthrorhaphis anziana, is not listed in Species Fungorum (2025), is recognized as Bacidia anziana Lynge in MycoBank, However, this name actually serves as the basionym of A. anziana. In checklist of Hawksworth (1972), it is noted to grow on other lichens, and thus we have included this species in our list. Arthrorhaphis fuscoreagens was transferred from Lecidea fuscoreagens Vain. by Poelt (1969). Although it is labeled as a synonym of A. grisea in Index Fungorum (2025) and MycoBank (2025), we found no literature to support the reinstatement of the older species. Arthrorhaphis viridescens Rabenh., not listed in Species Fungorum (2025), is still considered a valid name and should be included in the list. To date, 15 species are recognized in this genus: seven are strictly lichenicolous, three are facultative lichenicolous, and the rest are lichenized.
Type species: Arthrorhaphis flavovirescens (A. Massal.) Th. Fr.
=Catolechia flavovirescens Flot.
