Classification: Baeomycetales, Ostropomycetidae, Lecanoromycetes, Pezizomycotina, Ascomycota, Fungi.

Arthrorhaphidaceae was introduced by Poelt et al. (1976) to accommodate two genera, Arthrorhaphis Th. Fr. and Neonorrlinia Sydow with Arthrorhaphis as the type genus. Members of this family are lichenized fungi and partly parasitic, with a thallus that is either endothallic or superficial. The thallus is often wart-like or bullate, with poorly developed cortex, frequently containing rhizocarpic acid. The ascocarps are either disc-shaped and sessile or enclosed and embedded, with asci that are non-amyloid, slightly thickened at the apex, and contain septate, colorless spores. The paraphyses are branched and anastomosing. The ascocarps are colored olive in certain regions, such as the exciple, epihymenium, or ostiolar area (Poelt et al. 1976).

The type species of Neonorrlinia, N. trypetheliza was initially considered as a lichenized fungus, however, Hafellner et al. (1995) turn out that this is a lichenicolous fungus Cercidospora species on Arthrorhaphis. Then Neonorrlinia was treated as a synonym of Cercidospora, and Arthrorhaphidaceae becoming a monotypic family, only composed of Arthrorhaphis (Hafellner et al. 1995).

Kraichak et al. (2018) revised the classification of orders and families in the two major subclasses of Lecanoromycetes, and Arthrorhaphidaceae was placed within Baeomycetales based on phylogenetic analysis using multigene locus (nuLSU, mtSSU, RPB1, RPB2 and MCM7).

Type genus: Arthrorhaphis Th. Fr.

Other accepted species: Species Fungorum – search Arthrorhaphidaceae
