Index Fungorum, Facesoffungi, MycoBank, GenBank.

Classification Nectriaceae, Hypocreales, Hypocreomycetidae, Sordariomycetes, Pezizomycotina, Ascomycota, Fungi.

Saprobic or pathogenic, on dicotyledonous and monocotyledonous plant parts. Sexual morph: Ascomata perithecial, solitary to gregarious, superficial on a stroma, globose to subglobose to ellipsoidal or ovoid to obovoid, not collapsing upon drying, white to pale yellow to pale ochraceous, KOH-, surface strongly ornamented with warts, with a small pointed papilla or apapillate. Stromata sparse to well-developed. Apical paraphyses moniliform, hyaline. Asci 4–8-spored, narrowly clavate or broadly clavate to ellipsoidal, without an apical ring. Ascospores obliquely uniseriate or biseriate, ellipsoidal to long-ellipsoidal, 3- to multi-septate, not or slightly constricted at the septum, hyaline to yellow-brown, smooth-walled to striate. Asexual morph: Conidiomata fusarium-like, hyphomycetous. Conidiophores mononematous or sporodochial. Aerial conidiophores irregularly branched or unbranched, producing terminal or lateral phialides. Aerial phialides monophialidic, cylindrical to subcylindrical, periclinal thickening not visible or absent, smooth-, thin-walled, giving rise to two types of conidia. Aerial microconidia ovoid to obovoid, oblong or ellipsoid, 0–1- septate, hyaline, smooth-walled, flattened basal papilla present or lacking, formed in dry chains or wet heads. Aerial macroconidia falcate, multi-septate, with a curved, blunt to pointed apical cell and a foot-shaped basal cell, or distinctly beaked at both ends. Sporodochia cream colour to yellow. Conidiophores densely packed, branched, verticillate, having a short, smooth- and thin-walled stipe. Sporodochial conidiogenous cells monophialidic, arrange in terminal whorls of 2–4, cylindrical to subulate, smooth- and thin-walled, collarette reduced or flared. Sporodochial macroconidia falcate, 5–9-septate, moderately curved to straight, thick-walled, consisting of a blunt to hooked apical cell and distinct well-developed foot-shaped basal cell. Chlamydospores absent (adapted from Rossman et al. 1999; Crous et al. 2021).

Known distribution: Taiwan (Guu et al. 2007), Sri Lanka, Jamaica, New Zealand, Puerto Rico, Ecuador, Venezuela, Brazil, Colombia (Rossman et al. 1999), Thailand (This study).

Notes: Rossman et al. (1999) established Albonectria for species having white to pale yellow, strongly warted ascomata and producing Fusarium asexual morphs.

Type species: Albonectria rigidiuscula (Berk. & Broome) Rossman & Samuels, in Rossman et al., Stud. Mycol. 42: 105 (1999).

Other accepted species: Species Fungorum – search Albonectria.
